Tree Canada and BioForest have announced five more communities will receive support to protect ash trees from the emerald ash borer. The communities are Blainville, QC, Belleville, ON, Pointe-Claire, QC, Winnipeg, MB, and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, ON.
Mike Rosen of Tree Canada said, “We appreciate the cooperation of the many municipalities affected by Emerald Ash Borer in Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba and New Brunswick and are thankful to our partner BioForest Technologies Inc. for helping protect ash trees. We urge people to think twice about moving firewood, a major vector for this and other tree pests.”
The emerald ash borer is an invasive boring beetle that was discovered in 2002 in Ontario. Attempts to control and eradicate the species have failed, however used correctly TreeAzin has proven important in protecting high value ash. It is also used as part of a slowing the spread program in high value forests.
